Margrét Guðmundsdóttir

Margrét is a psychologist at Mín líðan and offers online therapy sessions for adults. She is particularly interested in helping people struggling with communication problems, low self-esteem, generalized anxiety disorder and depression. Margrét only uses evidence-based methods when working with mental health problems.

Expertise and field of interest

Margrét uses only evidence-based methods when making diagnosis and providing treatment and relies primarily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In parallel with her work at Mín líðan, Margrét works as a psychologist at The Health Care Centre of the Capital Area in Iceland in the western mental health team. Margrét provides online therapy sessions for all kinds of mental health issues, but is particularly interested in helping people who struggle with communication problems or symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder, depression and low self-esteem.

Education and work experience

Margrét has been working as a licensed psychologist since 2018 and completed her MS degree in Applied Psychology: Clinical Psychology the same year. She received training with the bipolar team and The National Hospital of Iceland. Margrét completed her B.Sc. degree in psychology from the University of Iceland in 2015 and also has a diploma in Criminology from the University of Iceland, which she completed in 2016.

Margrét has been working as a psychologist at Mín líðan since January 2022, where she provides online therapy sessions. She has worked in the Western Mental Health Team at The Health Care Centre of the Capital Area in Iceland since September 2018, where she has handled provided individual therapy, education, presentations, translations and therapy groups. The mental health team is an interdisciplinary team run according to the procedure of FACT teams (flexible assertive community treatment) and is a second-level service resource within the health care center.

Previously, she has worked in Reykjavík's Field and Counseling Team (ACT team), The Lodgng House on Lindargata, Konukoti (a shelter for homeless wome) and as a watchman and counselor at Hringbraut, where individuals with extensive and complex service needs were provided housing and support in accordance with the philosophy of harm reduction and Housing First. Margrét has also worked on translations of procedures and educational materials on social and health-related issues. She also worked at Statistics Iceland (Hagstofa Íslands) as an interviewer in research.
